Maplex – Beneath the Surface
While Maplex’s original light brown kraft color provides a natural appearance, we understand the need for designers, engineers, and product developers to enhance the visual appeal of the material by using a variety of decorative substrates such as paints, stains, foils, HPL, veneers and papers.
Maplex pressboard is also suitable for laser printing and embossing, as well as silk screen printing and engraving processes – the choice of surface treatments is vast.
The application of additional surface layers strengthens the pressboard, protects it from damage such as abrasions, dents, moisture, and stains, and extends its lifecycle.
A variety of wood finishing products are suitable for Maplex including linseed oil, carnauba wax, acrylics, and urethanes. Pressboard coated with biobased finishes can be composted or recycled as green waste. We recommend testing any coatings you decide to use on a small swatch prior to any large-scale application.
